Although initial cost of an LED bulb is higher than a traditional bulb, these solutions are 66% more energy efficient as they use less power than others. Additional reduced costs are seen in less use of water due to less evaporation and also less air conditioning required by the farmer for the plant's well-being.

"Large differences in pigment contents can alter the flavor of crops, but light is also important in regulating the biosynthesis of many of the volatile compounds that create the flavor and aroma of leaves, fruits, and flowers" stated researchers in a 2016 academic study regarding photobiology in horticulture. The research also stated "Red, far-red, and blue light have all been implicated in driving synthesis of the pigments required for photosynthesis", and further explained: "Blue and red light cause an increase in chlorophyll levels, whereas far-red results in reduced chlorophyll contents. As well as influencing the appearance of plants, these changes can also alter the rate of photosynthesis and therefore impact plant growth rates. The link between secondary metabolites and photosynthesis comprises an additional layer of complexity that should be considered when designing light recipes".

Through efficient and user-controlled wavelengths, the LED grow lights emit a plant-friendly spectrum (approximately 400–700 nanometers) which encourages plants to grow faster and produce higher yields.
